Legal Service Plan – Ensure Fair Debt Collection

If you are unable to meet your financial obligations and are being contacted by creditors, Hyatt’s legal service plan can help to enforce fair debt collection.

Debt problems are not uncommon, and in today’s tough economic times, more people than ever are facing them. Oftentimes people feel ashamed, helpless and frustrated when they are unable to pay their bills. However, the worst thing to do in these situations is to ignore what’s happening and hope it will go away. Delay will only make the problem worse, and it may lead to more negative consequences, including repossession, foreclosure, bankruptcy and credit score damage.

Thankfully, help is available. Debt problems are legal matters. A lawyer can provide the assistance needed to help enforce fair debt collection and ultimately find a solution.

For example:

  • Under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, it is illegal for collection agencies to call you late at night or early in the morning, or to constantly ring the telephone at any time.
  • Once you have an attorney acting on your behalf, debt collectors are no longer allowed to contact you, your employer, your friends or your neighbors. They must go through your attorney.
  • An attorney will make sure that due process is followed in the pursuit of your money and that you have been fairly treated.

Many people don’t know what to do when bill collectors come knocking (or calling), but you don’t have to be one of them.

Your legal service plan can help.

There are many laws in place to protect consumers and people in debt. With an attorney’s help, you can learn about all these laws and find a solution to your credit problems, helping to ensure that the debt collection is fair. And when you enroll in a group legal plan, there are no additional attorney fees for covered matters outside of your monthly plan premium when you use our national attorney network. Many companies offer an employee legal service plan as part of their employee benefits packages.

  • If your employer offers a Hyatt legal service plan, you can visit our legal plan resource center to learn more about coverage available when you enroll. (Your employer can provide the password needed to access this site.) If you are unsure whether your employer offers a Hyatt legal plan, please contact your benefits or HR department to find out.
  • If you are a legal plan member, access your plan to review coverage.
  • You may also call the Client Service Center at 800-821-6400 for more information on covered services.

Please note: Some matters, including employment-related matters, are excluded. View terms of service.
